Downtwon Bloomington, IL - Churchill's Formal Wear
I haven't reviewed a men's only store, so I defintely wanted to post about downtown Bloomington's Churchill's Formal Wear! This store sells men's suits and tuxes, and seems to be very classy and stylish! First of all, I have to say though that I do not get the crafty, brightly colored mobile things in the top of the window. While they are placed fine, and would work excellent for another store, I don't think these decorations match the formal, upscale feel of this store in particular. It does not make sense to me. Okay, now balance in this window is asymmetrical with one tall dress form on the right side of the window, and one small dress form (half a dress form?) with one tall dress form on the left. While it's not horrible, I feel that the empty space in the middle seems just that...empty. I do like that they used different sizing to make the window more interesting though. I'm not sure that this was the best choice in layout for this window. For rhythm, I think the eyes are drawn to the decorations at the top, then travel down to the focal point of the garments- specifically the brightly colored ties on the suits. I love this pop of color! The smaller dress form though, if I remember right, is not wearing a top, but just has on pants and suspenders. This is an incomplete look, and I don't think those often work in windows. I wish they would have put a shirt underneath, maybe a pop of color or a pattern to make it stand out against the white suspenders and create contrast. I'm not completely impressed with the principles of design or layout of this window, but the clothes look super stylish and of nice quality!
